Images cannot be uploaded to Pages, so generally it's better to always use Collections, but breadcrumbs and icons work on both.
The icons on this page are currently set up to show both types of sub-category (Collections and Pages), but Pages can be excluded by setting "Hide empty sub-categories" in the Category Icons settings.
